Echoes of the unseen
(2024)
Focusing on impermanence, grief, and transformation. Echoes of the unseen emerges from my personal journey that followed losing several of my family members within a short period of time. Rooted in a practice of contemplation on selected Buddhist texts and the poetry of Kabir, the wisdom within these verses became quiet guides on my creative journey. With the vision of realising a body of work that unfolds as a form of Tantric art I reminded myself that in this practice meaning, imagery, and thought remain inseparably intertwined.
Within this paradigm of image-making, the process of deeply engaging with each text was essential to my reaching an informed perspective from which a body of work could emerge. After sustained concentration on selected verses, I undertook a journey of re-imagining the meanings of these poems into gestures of light and form. A distinct visual language emerged through this practice, defined by a balance of movement and stillness, the considered posing of the model, carefully chosen locations, and a subtle dialogue of light and shadow. Through their interactions, these elements weave narratives that resonate with the teachings at the heart of the work.
